There’s Still Time…: Alan Clayson Returns With New Album And “KX54 WVL” Video Premiere

Alan Clayson has never been one to fit neatly anywhere – and never wanted to. Once spoken of in the same breath as Elvis Costello, Jonathan Richman, Tom Robinson, John Otway and Wreckless Eric, Clayson occupies a territory where songs collide with monologue, wit curdles into unease, and momentum matters more than polish.

On April 4, 2026, Think Like A Key Music will release There’s Still Time…, a new album that arrives in the landscape of contemporary pop like a Viking longship docking in a hovercraft terminal – operating by its own rules and unconcerned with fashion. Following 2024’s Ancient And Modern: Highlights of Half A Century, the record reframes Clayson not as a cult figure revisited, but as a continuing creative force.

The first taste of the album is “KX54 WVL,” out January 23 on all major streaming platforms, accompanied by a brand new music video premiere. It's a propulsive, mournful piece that follows a doomed car on its final journey, its lyric turning scrapyards, tail lights and engine roar into the backdrop for a quietly devastating farewell. It offers a sharp reminder of why recent live appearances have been praised as “mesmerising,” “a man possessed,” and “a wonderful evening by a master raconteur at the top of his game.”

Across There’s Still Time…, Clayson moves freely between bedroom psych textures, motorik rhythms, space-age hymns and baroque pop vignettes, with spoken-word passages that seem to tilt the floor beneath your feet. Argumentative, funny, occasionally abrasive, and unconcerned with mainstream expectations, he remains focused on what has always mattered most: songwriting, performance, and saying the thing that still needs saying.

Beyond his work as a songwriter and performer, Clayson is also one of Britain’s most respected music biographers – but There’s Still Time… makes clear where his priorities lie.

There’s Still Time… is out April 4, 2026 on a limited edition CD pressing and digitally via Think Like A Key Music. For more on Alan Clayson’s work, visit his official site.
