Peter Daltrey unboxing his new album

Peter Daltrey, the psychedelic architect behind Kaleidoscope and Fairfield Parlour, is no stranger to weaving complex tapestries of sound and history. But with his latest project, The Life And Times of Blue Larry and the Huguenot Kid, out November 28, he is attempting something structurally audacious: a split narrative that spans three centuries, available in two drastically different formats.

The album concept pivots between two archetypes. On one side is "Blue Larry," a "wayward son" and "chancer with a slick tongue" whose story originates from lyrics Daltrey penned 55 years ago for Kaleidoscope guitarist Eddie Pumer. On the other is "The Huguenot Kid," a character based on Daltrey’s own ancestor, James Daltrey, a bone-worker who fled France for London’s East End 300 years ago.

For collectors, Think Like A Key Music is offering a unique twist. The vinyl edition acts as a "distilled" artifact, pressing only six essential tracks that capture the core "fact and fable" of the project. The CD and digital editions, however, expand the universe to a full 13 tracks, including the "possibly psychedelic" cut "Faye Goes Dreaming" and a cover of Curved Air’s prog-folk classic "Elfin Boy".

Sonic touchstones range from the "psych-folk atmosphere" Daltrey perfected in the late 60s to modern "character-driven stories" involving "star-crossed lovers protected by their mutual disease".

The Life And Times of Blue Larry and the Huguenot Kid arrives this Friday, November 28.
